In this article I will tell and show you how to customize the VKontakte news feed for the desired communities.
The fact is that I am currently participating in Sergei Kopylenko’s online marathon and perform various tasks every day.
The work is mainly carried out on the social network Vkontakte. I publish posts, conduct live broadcasts, add new people as friends, comment on posts of thematic communities, etc.
I learned a lot of cool tricks at the marathon that I want to share with you.
And the first trick is how to properly set up the VKontakte news feed.
Why VKontakte news does not work
In March 2021, clients of the third-party application Kate Mobile, which provides access to a page on the popular social network Vkontakte, faced restrictions on the news feed API from company representatives.
And why? VK users who are using the full version know how much advertising there is now. So the Kate Mobile developers decided to earn extra money by posting promotional publications without first coordinating them with VKontakte. The latter did not like it: they wanted a percentage of the placement, under the pretext of violating the rules of the social network (harm to health, hazardous substances, etc.) they asked to limit the appearance of advertising, but the dialogue did not take place, and the feed was turned off.
On March 15, employees of the social network disabled access for the Android application. The first complaints came: the VKontakte news feed did not work. This went on for several months; when you clicked on the “News” tab, a text was displayed that said, “The Administration apologizes, but we can’t display it.” And lo and behold, in August the tape started working (apparently, a compromise was reached). Kate Mobile users, as before the shutdown, can view publications from friends and communities they belong to. More advertising posts have appeared, but this is tolerable.
Solution: If your news feed is not yet enabled, update the application to the latest version or reinstall it via the Play Market, and the problem will be solved.
Why do you even need to do this?
There are many thematic communities on VKontakte. They contain your target audience.
If you regularly comment on the latest posts of these communities, the participants will pay attention to you. They will go to your VKontakte profile. They will see your posts. Will be added as friends. And perhaps they will take advantage of the offers that you advertise on VKontakte.
Thus, through activity in thematic communities, you can attract the target audience to your profile.
And if your page is properly designed, then you will get new friends, new subscribers and new clients from Vkontakte. And it's free.
But the problem is that if you go to your news feed, you will see that it is a complete mess.
There are posts from your friends, advertisements, and posts from all the communities you are subscribed to.
In this mess, it is very difficult to observe posts from the thematic communities you need.
But there is a solution to this problem.
You can create a special tab in the news feed. And configure it so that it displays news only from those communities and groups that you need.
Convenient thing. I started using it myself and am very pleased.
VKontakte news feed does not load
When you go to the “News” tab, sometimes an access error pops up and there are no entries.
Solution: Log out and log back in.
Various problems with the news feed, updating posts, and loading attached pictures arise when the Internet connection speed is insufficient.
If we are talking about the mobile Internet, you may have left a good coverage area, exceeded the daily limit, ran out of money in your account, or have ordinary connection problems. Check each option.
Internet providers may experience difficulties with the operation of the equipment, problems on the line, the problem may be in the router or network adapter, hence the low speed. You can check the connection speed using one of the World Wide Web services, and then the technical support of the provider. If only you have a problem, they will send a specialist, but all subscribers have a problem - you will have to wait a little.
VKontakte messages and photos do not open
The last thing I would like to talk about.
Such a nuisance happens when you try to open a correspondence.
The same thing happens when you try to open a photo (see pictures and photos on VKontakte do not load). Quite unpleasant.
But there is also good news. You don't need to do anything. Just wait a couple of minutes. Such errors appear extremely rarely, and are corrected very quickly. In my memory, the longest wait was about 15 minutes.
That's all. After this, all functions begin to work normally again.
VKontakte news feed is not working now
VKontakte is an Internet site that, like others, lags, slows down, is updated and improved. The difference between a social resource and others is in the frantic traffic: millions of users are active every second: listening to songs, scrolling through the feed, sending messages, uploading the latest photos and videos. All this puts a strain on the servers, and even the most powerful equipment sometimes needs to be rebooted. Then similar problems arise: sometimes the video doesn’t load, sometimes the music doesn’t load, sometimes the news doesn’t load on VK.
Solution: ordinary users will not be able to solve the problem with servers on their own, since it is completely out of our control. All that remains is to wait until the technical work is completed.
VKontakte is not working right now: how to check
Over the past years, VK clients have periodically complained about social network server failures. This is expressed in the inability to log into your profile via a PC or application. In this case, there is no need to panic, because specialists need time to fix the problem. Most often, the problem is solved within a few hours, and sometimes VK even starts right away.
In such a situation, it is important to know what to do if the VC does not work. The algorithm is like this:
- To get started, follow the link downdetector.ru/ne-rabotaet/vkontakte/.
- Look on the website to see if the VKontakte website is working now (at the time of verification).
- Pay attention to the number of reports. If their number increases within an hour, the social network does not function for many users.
If you find reasons why VK is not working, and it is caused by server failures, just wait until the problem is resolved.
As soon as the errors are eliminated and the number of reports decreases, you can safely enter the site. Additionally: if the VK video does not play, then follow the link.
But it also happens differently when the information at the specified address does not currently show any failures on the server. In this case, the cause may be a problem with your PC or phone. But before you carry out detailed checks, check the following points:
- Check your Internet connection. To do this, go to any other page and check its loading stability.
- Check with your provider for access to VK. For example, in Ukraine you won’t be able to log into a social network without using a VPN. In addition, access to the application may be closed by administration at universities, schools and other institutions.
If checking the servers does not show any failures now, the Internet is working, and there are no reasons to block the site, you need to look for the reason in your phone or computer. Here, viruses or other failures could have caused the malfunction, which we will discuss below.
What to do?
Another option why the news feed in VK does not work is making changes to the system hosts file, which is responsible for the normal operation of the site. The presence of unnecessary information in a document indicates the possible presence of a virus, and also means a disruption of the social network in one form or another.
Solution.
- Go to Local Disk C through “My Computer”. You will see many folders in front of you, select the Windows folder, from there go to the System32 folder, then to drivers and finally to etc.
- The last folder in the path contains the hosts file, which is what you need.
- Using Notepad, open the file for viewing and editing.
- If the problem is not in hosts, there should be no information - the file will be empty, otherwise you need to erase all data except line 127.0.0.1 localhost.
- Save the system file.
- Reboot your device.
- Log in to the VKontakte social network page and go to the “News” tab.
- Is the news feed visible? Great.
- Change your password to a longer and stronger one.
There are plenty of reasons for the problem, but for every reason there is a solution. If none of the proposed options worked, perform a system restore by rolling it back to the moment when the tape worked, or reinstall the operating system (for very extreme cases).
Viruses and malware
Alternatively, access to VK is blocked by a virus or malware. For example, if you installed some software recently, it is quite possible that it is the source of the problem. What can be done?
First of all, use the antivirus installed on your computer, remembering to update the database. After this, we strongly recommend downloading the Cureit utility! from Dr. Web. It is distributed free of charge. Just download it and run it, it will automatically check the files and possibly find the malicious one among them. By the way, such a program that blocks a social network site may be a program created to work with VK. Be careful when downloading unfamiliar applications and installing them on your computer.
You can also try adding VKontakte to the firewall exception list, if one is installed.
If this does not help, you can try to roll back the system to an earlier point when logging into VK was available. However, all files that you have downloaded up to this time will not be deleted. The main thing is that you create a restore point at an earlier point in time.
Where are the privacy settings in the mobile version of VK
Open the mobile version of the VKontakte website on your phone. On the main page, at the top left, click on the Menu button.
In the menu below, click on the Settings tab.
In the settings, you will see the Privacy tab. Click on it and configure the necessary parameters.

How to allow news suggestions in a group
Let me note again - the community type should be “Public Page”. But according to old habit, all users call any community a group. We won't fall behind. But you remember the restrictions listed above.
So, if you need to make this function available to visitors, or the “Suggest news” button has disappeared, check the following settings.

Go to the desired community, and in the menu block click “Management”. Next we need the Settings tab. There we scroll the page to the very bottom, to the “Additional information” section. Here, find the “Suggested News” block. And in the list, select the “From all users” option. Don't forget to save the settings.
There are two more items on the list:
- Only from subscribers;
- Off.
The first option activates the feature only for community members. The second one turns it off completely.
