What are Stories on VKontakte?

Stories are disappearing posts with snapshots and short videos that can be shared without being posted to your personal page. They are displayed in the “Stories” block for 24 hours - after that they disappear. The section is located above the news feed.

This type of publication can be used by ordinary users and communities. The first ones are for sharing bright moments from life with friends, the second ones are for promoting the group or informing subscribers.

Groups/publics have different limits - maximum video length is 15 seconds.

Where to look?

How to view history on VKontakte? It can only be found by those who have a profile on a social network. Unauthorized users will not be able to bring the idea to life.

So, to find your VK visit history, you need to:

1. Open vk.com.
2. Log in to your profile using your username and password.
3. Click on the arrow next to your avatar in the upper right corner of the page.
4. Click on “Settings”.
5. Go to the "Security" section.
6. In the “Activity history” block, click on the inscription “Show history”.

That's all. The last 6 connections to the profile will appear on the screen. From them you can often understand whether a particular account has been hacked. There is nothing difficult or incomprehensible about this!

How to view History in VK?

Stories on VK are published by communities and friends. They are located in the news feed - in the section above the main content. In the web version of VKontakte, these are rectangular blocks with a cover. Here you can see who published the Story: the name of a friend or the name of a group/public.

Not all publications are equally interesting. In order not to lose materials from friends and relatives among dozens of disappearing photos and videos from online stores and thematic public pages, you can hide unnecessary Stories.

2. Click on the icon with three dots - it is located at the bottom of the playback block.
3. Select the "Hide from Stories" option.

There's nothing you can do about it; you won't be able to add a video this way. Maybe just download the file from YouTube to your computer and upload it from there to your VKontakte videos.

If the video is not prohibited from copying. Then you will see the following window in front of you, in which you will need to adjust the title and description in the same way, as well as set a restriction on viewing and commenting. But this is all optional, of course.

How to add a Story on VKontakte?

Let's move on to practice: we will publish the first Story on VK - from a personal profile and on behalf of the community. First from a computer, then from a phone.

From computer

How to publish a Story on VKontakte from a computer - step-by-step algorithm:

1. Open the "News" section.
2. In the “Stories” section, click on the plus icon - in the first block where your avatar is used as the cover.

   

3. An editor will open: add text, select a font (one of six available options), set the text color.
4. At the bottom of the section there is a palette icon - here you can change the background color or add an emoticon to a photo/short video.

   

5. Nearby there is a button with a camera icon - through this function you can add a photo or upload a video - no more than 12 seconds.
6. To add a sticker, go to the appropriate section - emoticon icon in the editor.
7. There is a Brush tool. Select line thickness, intensity and color. Start drawing.

When you finish creating Stories, click the “Publish” button.

Now let's publish the Story on behalf of the community:

1. Join a group or public page.
2. Under the main menu there is a block with the “Add story” button - click on it.

   

3. Select a photo or video from your computer. You can upload a beautiful picture for the background. The duration of the video is no more than 15 seconds, the file size is no more than 10 MB. The recommended image aspect ratio is 9x16.

   

4. The editor will open - publish your Story or add new elements.
5. You can publish a story: to do this, indicate the title and upload the cover.

   

A plot is a collection of Stories with a common cover and title. The group administrator can combine up to 20 media files into one story: photos and videos.

From phone

Now let’s post the Story from your phone - through the VK application on Android and iOS:

1. Open the “News” section and click on your avatar in the Story block.

   

2. Select the publication type: Story or Video Story. To record video and take pictures, a smartphone camera is used - front and main.

   

3. You can add a mask - click on the mask icon on the toolbar.

   

4. There is a separate section with settings. Here you can specify who can see photos and videos—for example, only friends. In this case, you will hide publications from VKontakte users who are not on your friends list.

   

5. To shoot a video, you need to press and hold the red button in the center. The duration of the video is no more than 12 seconds.
6. To post a photo or video, click on the white arrow in the upper right corner.

How to make a Story on behalf of the community - instructions:

1. Log in to your group or public page.
2. Near the line for creating a new post there is a Stories icon - click on it.

   

3. The editor will open - record a video, take a photo, apply the desired effects or add a thematic caption. Publish the material.

Interesting fact: unlike Instagram, in VK you cannot tag a person in History - for example, leave an active link to the profile of another social network user.

Programs for publishing stories

Many sites recommend installing a special program with which you can post a story from your computer to VK. But personally, I wouldn't recommend you do this. The fact is that such programs often steal your credentials, and it is possible that after installation you will find an uninvited guest in the form of a virus.

That's why I showed you the safest ways to do this. The only program that can be recommended in this case is an emulator, for example Bluestacks, which I already described above. Even when you enter your credentials through it, they don’t go anywhere.

Adding links

You can add a link to History - for example, to an article in a group or public page. To do this, select the desired post and click the repost button. A list of actions will open - select the “Add to history” function.

The material will be attached to the publication. Add a call to action in the editor - for example, write the text: “New article about marketing. Read the link."

In a similar way, you can publish a link to an article through the web version of VKontakte.

Important: Stories cannot contain links to third-party resources - only to materials stored on the social network.

Inserting a video into a group

The last point of today's manual will be for owners of VKontakte groups. If you want to add a Video to your group, then go to the main page of the group, under the avatar, click on the three dots in the form of a menu and select “Community Management” from the drop-down list:

VKontakte has relatively recently introduced the ability to share “Stories” with friends and subscribers. What is this? Stories are a short video, up to 12 seconds long, in which you can place photos, stickers that VKontakte provides, as well as videos. Of course, this is not new among social networks and applications (a similar thing has been done on Instagram for a long time), but VKontakte is using this format for the first time. The history is stored for a maximum of 24 hours so as not to clutter the feed and show only current events and can be sent out in private messages to a selected circle of people. The person who created the video knows who opened it and how many views there are. The list of available stories of your friends is located in the news and it will always be in front of your eyes. It cannot be removed through the settings, that is, disabling stories if they annoy you is quite problematic. They promised to leave stories only on the main news tab, but personally they haunt me at all of them. Let's move on to the issue of creating history.

Practical use

Now it’s clear how to make a story on VKontakte. It's hard to believe, but this security setting has very real practical applications. What is it about?

You can forcefully end all connection sessions, clear the history and exit the “VK” profile from all devices. To do this you will need:

1. Open your page on the mentioned social network.
2. Click on the avatar in the right corner of the browser.
3. Go to the “Settings” - “Security” section.
4. In the “Activity History” block, click on the “End all sessions” hyperlink.

Last Activity

Another rather important point is the last activity. It can be tracked by history on the social network. The corresponding line is written in the “Activity History” block.

Here the user will be informed when the last connection was, in which country the login took place, and also from what device they accessed the page. For example, when using Android mobiles or tablets, you may see "Android Mobile Device".

This component was invented to ensure security and inform the profile owner about the latest authorizations on the page. Sometimes a final visit can help determine whether a person has actually been hacked.

The most effective, but difficult option

Naturally, the very first option that comes to mind is installing a special emulator of the Android operating system. They are easy to use. Let's take, for example, the most popular emulator - Bluestacks. You can download it from here and install it like a regular program.

After that, just launch it, enter the data from your Google email and you can use Android directly on your computer. Next, install the official VK application and from there add history in the usual way, just like from your phone.

But in fact, I would not recommend using Bluestacks for these purposes. The fact is that not only is it bulky in itself, but it also eats up a lot of RAM, which can lead to slowdowns on a computer with not very strong hardware. Moreover, difficulties arise when you want to upload a story from a computer through an emulator, since there will be a big problem with finding the paths of media files.

But nevertheless, this is the most effective method, and unlike other methods that VK itself can stop, it will never stop working. So I recommend using it only as a last resort and only if you want to add stickers and masks to the story, since other methods, unfortunately, are not capable of this.
