Why doesn't music play on VKontakte? What to do?

Problems with the data transfer protocol

Currently, most sites on the Internet use the secure https protocol to transmit data to resource visitors. The social network VKontakte also works on this protocol. If you access the network using the http protocol, then you should be automatically redirected to https. But with certain browser and network settings, this may not happen.

To solve the problem and listen to music, just log into VKontakte using the https protocol. That is, you need to follow this direct link to appear in your audio recordings: https://vk.com/audio

Please note: If you have already found the music you are interested in through a search and do not want to leave the page, simply change the http protocol to https in the address bar of your browser forcibly, and you will find yourself on the desired page, where there should be no problems playing music.

Rolling back the system

What to do if none of the suggested tips helped? Actually, one piece of advice from the list was simply bound to help you, but if for some reason this did not happen, then I can only suggest one thing - roll back the system to an earlier date when your computer was functioning normally. Just remember that the most recently installed programs or games can be eliminated, while other files (photos, videos, music, etc.) will remain untouched.

Go to the control panel, select the section “Recovery” - “Run the recovery system”.

Then select a restore point (an earlier date) and click Next.

Follow the instructions. The computer will then restart.

Reinstalling the application

And the solution to the problem was a banal reinstallation. Delete the application and then download it from the store again. A regular update does not work. Only after reinstalling did the music start playing again.

Perhaps this method will help you out, because especially in this situation, as you saw above, you shouldn’t expect help.

Outdated version of Flash Player

Flash Player is responsible for playing Flash animation, video and audio on websites. The version of the player on your computer may be outdated, so audio recordings can no longer be played.

If the problem is in Flash Player, then the site writes “Playback error”. This is a clear sign that it's time to update your player. Go to the official website and download the latest version. Don't forget to uncheck "Yes, make Chrome your default browser."

Check your Internet speed!

It's corny, but true. If a song starts, but freezes in the middle and plays jerkily to the end, then everything can be trivially simple - the speed of your Internet connection simply does not allow you to load all the necessary information.

On average, one musical composition lasting 3-4 minutes takes 5-10 Megabytes. It all depends on the bitrate (which affects the quality), maybe more. Here's what to do:

● Go to Speedtest.net and check the speed of your Internet connection. If you see a figure there of 1 Megabit or less, you know that this is a mess. This often happens when you connect to VK using the mobile Internet. This type of connection is good for correspondence, but photos, videos, and audio take a long time to transfer.

Just think about it, a text document of a thousand pages weighs less than one song! So you can chat with your friends for a whole year and spend as much traffic as downloading one music track.

What to do in this case? The advice is simple: change the location. Yes, sometimes it helps to move just one meter to the side. If you live in a big city, this problem is most likely irrelevant for you. But in small towns or villages there is usually one or just a few mobile operator towers installed, and the best location for receiving the signal has to be found in this strange way.

● Instead of mobile Internet, connect to Wi-Fi. In general, this is a very simple rule that many people ignore for some reason. In 99% of cases, the Wi-Fi connection is much faster and more stable. Essentially, Wi-Fi is wireless access to wired Internet.

● The best way to make sure that your Internet speed is okay is to go to some other site, or better yet, YouTube and try to watch a video. If everything is reproduced, then the problem lies somewhere else.

We work with antivirus

Run a scan with your antivirus to make sure there are no viruses on your computer. If there is no corresponding application, then download the free versions of Avast, Dr. Web CureIt!, ESET Nod32, etc.

If an antivirus program detects malicious files on your computer, then for security purposes it is recommended to change all passwords, including those for the VKontakte website. In addition to viruses, the problem may be hidden in the antivirus itself.

Antivirus incompatibility

In some cases, you cannot listen to music because the web security screen intercepts audio from the browser and does not return it. You can check this guess by completely disabling the antivirus for some time.

If the audio plays again, then add vk.com to the antivirus whitelist, and also update the application to the latest version. We will show how to do this using an example with Kaspersky:

  1. Go to Kaspersky settings and go to the Web Anti-Virus settings.

  2. Go to the “Trusted Addresses” menu and enter the address there: *.vk.com/*

  3. If after this the music still does not load, then go to the “Network” tab and click “Select...”.

  4. Find your browser in the list and uncheck it. This should fix the defect.
